Soapbox :
The objectives for this test were:
1) Maximize QSOs with WRTC teams
2) Have plenty of fun
3) Stay in the chair for 24 hours
4) 1,200 QSOs , Score : at least 500K
Saturday (contest starts at 7:00 AM local time)
1200z: started on 40M, but my wire antenna on did not help to
get some JAs
heard;
just a bit on 20M
1240z: switched to 15M which was slightly better �"where I
started
working WRTC
stations here, although they were consistently at
almost at noise level
S2-S3.
One curious detail is that during this 15M incursion,
most of them
asked me to QSY to 20M �"which I did,however, I
realized the 20M band
was
practically closed to the North east USA -during our
local morning;
So, despite changing bands never heard them.
1750z: I finally started to run at 1750z on 10M with a good
harvest of WRTC
stations;
they were consistently about the S4 same level,the
only exception being
K1A which was S7 -by far the strongest one;I guess its
antenna was properly
oriented antenna to my location.
1930z: Thunderstoms and rain raised noise levels to S9 for an
hour; which
slowed me
considerably
2256z: conditions got better on 15 and 20M
Sunday:
0200z: 20M turns in great shape, allowing small runs
0400z: 80M is an horrendous s9 static noise level, just a
couple of
contacts (big guns).
0429z: 40M managed to get a small run until another station
just stomped on
my frequency and kicked me out. Oh well, just using
here 100W my wire
antenna.
Then going back and forth between 20M and 40M.
0631z: finally got K1F on 40M; it seems that they spent alot
of time on 80M
0635z: Too tired, called quits.
Results vs Objectives:
1) Claimed WRTC stations worked: 58 out of 59. Good!
2) Twice the fun! WRTC + IARU. Success!
3) Time on: 15 out of 24 hours. 63% , goal not met due to:
a) Current callsign holder Age (90% weight) and
b) 1 hour of bad atmospheric conditions(10% weight)
4) Claimed QSOs: 626 Claimed score: 226K . 50% accomplishment
Nevertheless, the thrill of chasing WRTC stations was a lifetime event!
