Comments:
Oh yes, the rtty roundup. Band conditions not too bad but not as good as
previous contests. Of course at my advanced age I have a bad case of amnesia
remembering previous band conditions of contests in years past, particularly
the rtty roundup!
One thing that surprised me was the lack of JA's during the last couple hours
of the contest. Usually they are lined up like jets trying to land at O'Hare
and I usually work a bunch of them. This time they were conspicuous by their
absence and I only worked a few. My antenna situation here is generally
wanting. I use a 43' vertical on all bands which is a stark reminder of
previous years when I had a real antenna on a real tower. Oh well, it no
sniveling allowed. When I had the beam and was running everybody would call me
off the back no matter which way it was pointing. Clearly the current antenna
doesn't have that problem as it is always pointed the correct way. Cool huh?
Oh well, I do make up for the lackluster antenna by putting a little fire in
the wire. Otherwise nobody could hear me. My effort was mostly a casual
search and pounce but I did run a bit in the last hour on 10 meters. Didn't
work many stations but I did manage to warm up the clouds a bit! Oh well..
there is always next year.
