The last couple of evenings, till sunset, were spent setting up and checking
the performance of our first ever Beverage on nearby farmers field.
After the third try, the fourth evening, we had it set with sufficient
isolation to the Tx ant and with acceptable performance.
The contest started strong with good activity and we looked forward for the
sunrise enhancement.
It was lost with a too high VSWR preventing us from Tx-ing for some period.
Overnight, snow had fallen and the water/ice produced a short on a
non-weatherprotected bridge.
No harm, it was more than compensated by the Sunday sunrise bringing some 15
US/VE stations in the log. As usual,we were amazed by the Rx-capabilities of
some DX-stations. For the first time, we overheard mni inland US stations
calling the stronger east coast stations, pointing to the potential of the
baby-Beverage.
Furthest DX were ZF2DX, WN8R(OH)and K0DI(FL).
At times, some pile-ups were so heavy, they had to be left aside.
A big thanks for all the callers and those trying to get my call through the
noise.
We enjoyed every minute of the event.
