Once again, last minute changes to the original plan. I ended up being on my own
at the station this weekend and did not make any of the planned hardware changes
for the event. So, no 5 over 5 stack, no Acom, no K3, just our trusty old MkV
field, Ameritron AL1200, and Optibeam tribander.
Saturday was quite uncharacteristic in that I was able to run pretty much all
the time and keep a relatively clear frequency. Normally how it works here is
that I have a hard time to keep a frequency until sundown, and then I work the
band at a frantic pace until it dies. This is what happened on Sunday though,
and part of the reason my sunday score was a bit less than saturday.
Good fun as usual, working friends old and new. Shame we forgot to point the
antennas south west to see if the skewed path was open to the PNW. I just
figured that if AZ and CA were coming in good on the direct path then it was
just a matter of time. But no. Missed ID WA OR and MT, plus the usual hard to
find Canadian provinces.
Of note this weekend was the very rapid QSB which made it hard and sometimes
impossible to complete some QSOs. Also some noise at times and the usual
splatter made it tough too. I know there were a lot of guys calling who I just
couldnt hear, I sure missed by zero-noise low yagi at times, sorry to all of
those I couldn't get.
Thanks to all for a fun weekend and see you in.... maybe Russian DX?
