Comments:
The journey continues, as we are inspired by and learn from the Masters of
Multi-Multi, K3LR and W3LPL. Congratulations to both Tim and Frank for amazing
scores. We really enjoy the close competition.
Nine outstanding operators came to the WE3C station for some serious contesting
and camaraderie. It's always great to have a bunch of radio friends get
together and have a good time working our friends around the world.
Coming off of a large deposit of solid water on Thursday, we were happy to
learn that Walt WA3LRO's flight from London landed on Thursday night and he was
able to join us again. However, the 15m antennas seemed to be loaded with ice
and snow, causing problems to our amplifier. We learned after the band closed
on Friday that the issue was not the antennas but actually a faulty amplifier,
which was quickly swapped out, and there were no other major station equipment
problems all weekend.
Interestingly, we found out after the fact that there was a power outage for
over an hour during prime time Saturday. The station equipment (all of it,
including amplifiers) is powered by UPS equipment and a backup generator.
Transitions to backup power and then return to normal power went unnoticed by
the operating team. Nice!
On Sunday, we decided to ask callers to move for band fills, not just for new
multipliers. This was great fun, and in hindsight, we should have been doing
this earlier. Lesson learned. Many, many thanks to all who moved for us.
Conditions, as noted by others, were poorer than last year and the CW contest.
High levels of intermittent QRN on 160, 80 & 40M limited our ability to
hear callers.

Improvements are planned for the summer both in the shack and out in the
antenna farm.
