Comments:

That was quite a ride with tropical storm Patricia pushing through all weekend
bringing flooding and high winds however this was the first time I managed my
time well enough to operate for 45 hours. 44 of them were reasonable quality
operating but had a couple of computer issues, rotators that wouldn't turn in
the high wind and even my Windows 10 telnet capability died right in the middle
of the contest (very bad if you went assisted) but conditions were pretty darned
good and both N1MM and Audacity recovered their files just fine after the
crashes. (I reinstalled the telnet feature in Win10 and it came
back...strange)

I'll be glad when even the faintest hope of WRTC qualification is gone because
I ended up in SOABLP(A) since NR5M (with all the best antennas in the world)
was going to operate full bore in SOAB HP. He is only 10 miles from my station
and is a beast on SSB. I also didn't want to go heads up with N5AW in SOABLP
(because he'd whip my tail too) so I thought (A) might give me a chance to pay
my 10% WRTC "penalty" to try and make up the Q deficit against N5AW
with more mults. I haven't seen Marv's report yet to know if this crazy
strategy came close to working but it was my best shot so I hope it doesn't
cost me too many WRTC points. I didn't come close to Marv's score from last
year and he usually increases by 10% every year so this strategy has a very low
chance of success but it was all I had. ;-)

The conditions were sometimes very good (20-30 over signals on 10/15 from LP
stations) and sometimes they were very bad. Even with my 4 square on 80M, I
called over and over in a pileup and tried to find the perfect opening to
squeeze my call in but I usually had to wait until EVERYBODY else had gotten
through to MAYBE get a contact. Many, many times they just couldn't hear a
peep out of me. It was really frustrating especially since I was hearing on 80
very well (I think).

I'm done for the contesting year. I've got family coming from all over for
Thanksgiving so it would be marital suicide to leave for a CQWW CW contest. I
also probably won't get back into any other contests this year to recover the
brownie points I've burned this year and will burn again next year. ;-) After
WRTC2018, I'll just be getting into fun contests that have no WRTC
implications.

Thanks for all the Qs and the good ears for those that actually heard me on the
low bands.

73,

Bob K5WA
