Went Low Power since my 160 amp is 'disabled'.
Missed KL7,NEBR(hrd 2),NEV(W7RN-where were u?),VE1,7,8,9,VO2,VY1,VY0
It took several years before I learned to appreciate the parasitic interaction
of Towers with Vertically Polarized Antennas. My 160M Inverted-L is 150 ft ESE
of a 130 ft Tower with 3L15 on top which acts as a Parasitic Reflector beaming
to ZS with a broad pattern (120 deg). It works well from EU to SA. In the
ARRL 160M contest I was able to work W7s with no other callers but the W6s
never even heard my 100w signal.
I decided to use my 95 ft tower with 2L40 as an Elevated GP with only 2 radials
at 10 ft to compliment the inv-L. It measured 33 Ohms which I transformed to 76
Ohms using 1/4 WL of RG58 followed by 300 ft of something similar to RG6 (75 Ohm
Video Cable). This tower is 120 ft WSW of the 130 ft tower, beaming to ZL.
The first contact with this new Elevated GP was K5P (on Palmyra KH5), followed
by this contest where W6/7s were easily worked barefoot, even answering my CQs,
along with 3 KH6s. There is about 10 dB or so F/B switching between the two
antennas E/W. I'm thinking about installing another 2-radial Elevated GP in a
90 ft pine tree, 100 ft NE of the tall tower to see if it improves my EU
signal.
