Comments:
Once again, I'm indebted to my host, Tom, NH6Y. He installed a 160m vertical at
his place plus a beverage towards the US prior to my visit. Tom hosted me for
the 2015 ARRL DX CW as KH6RS (I am a club member!) while we were on vacation
last year.
It took some adjusting to not hearing stations before sunset and not really
anything workable until an hour after sunset. Needed 2500 mile propagation to
reach the west coast, not the 400-800 I'm accustomed to during daylight. And
the better stations weren't listing in our direction. My fellow Islanders and I
called and called but didn't get a return until they remembered we were out
here.
It was amazing to work a couple of US, then a JA or two and then more US. Going
back and forth between the beverage and the vertical, putting one in each ear
from the Orion's dual receivers.
Counting the days until a return to operate ARRL DX CW again from here in
2018.
