Comments:
Tried running HP tonight...and it made very little difference in my score. Of
course, y'all would tell me that the main reason is -- ... -- wait for it ....
THE OPERATOR! :-) Yep, you're right.
Anyway, 'twas a fun run, especially on 40m. The QRN on 80 here was legend,
since we had a thunderstorm pass through moments before the CWT, then there's
one peeking around the corner now. So, my dits were dodging lightning in order
to reach your speakers.
Huge thanks to all who gave me a Q tonight. It was especially nice working
Rudy, UR5MM on 40, as well as Jean, F6JOE. Thanks, guys.
Funny (at least, to me)...I had an extremely good start on 40m. But, the band
was changing. I had prepped for my frequency hold before the test started by
sending QRL? several times, plus chatting briefly with a couple of you. Then,
when the floodgates opened, I was getting a rate of almost 180/hr. All of a
sudden, I heard this beautiful signal coming up from the noise and he was
calling "CQ CWT." Shoot! Why was he invading my frequency? It
didn't seem to bother him one bit that I had been holding that frequency since
the beginning. Then, I could hear the band change some more...and then, I
heard his call -- K4BAI!!! Yikes! John is my mentor and I KNEW for a fact
that he had not heard me. Plus, I knew I couldn't go head-to-head with him.
Even if he had been running QRP, I wouldn't have done so. He's FAR too nice a
guy. So, I took that as a signal to QSY and do some searching and
PAH-pouncing! It's wonderful to be a member of a community that is so nice and
helpful to one another. Remember the Golden Rule?
So, here's hoping that each of you has a splendid weekend and enters into a
marvelously fruitful week next week. Until then...
73,
