Comments:

We manned the station for all 48 hours. Thanks to Tom/ND2T for doing the late
morning shift both days when the rate was in single digits or even zero.

10 was dead at the beginning so we started on 15 which had weak signals. Slow
rates led to a half hour running on 20 early and then finally giving up on 15
before 0300. 15 was marginally open to Asia again in the 0600 and 0700 hours
but signals were weak and only snagged HS0AC for a mult. 20 came alive just
before 0600 and we ran there until 0900 when we moved to 40.

We worked a few mults on 80 but didn't run there on the first day because 40
was doing so well. 20 was productive for a couple of hours after 40 died but
then rates got very slow until after 2000 when 15 opened. Then there were a few
hours of slowly runnable 15 and 20 until midway in the 2300 hour when we
struggled to make any Qs for several hours. We listened on 10 for any sign of
activity and saw a few packet spots of JAs by other Asia stations but heard
nothing.

After opening to UA9 and the Middle East for a couple of hours 20 opened to JA
and BY just before 0430 and we were able to run there and on 15 until moving to
40 in the closing minutes of the 0800 hour.

What was remarkable is that 15 opened again with reasonably strong signals in
the 0600 and 0700 hours and we ran for more than an hour, working 50 Qs on a
band that had been marginal or dead to Asia earlier. Later instead of staying
on 40 we made a few trips to run on 80 to pick up mults. We had decided before
the contest that 160 would be too much trouble for the few Qs we'd have to
struggle to get.

The morning and early afternoon hours were much the same as the previous day
only even slower. With just over an hour left in the contest we saw spots for
JAs on 10 and heard weak signals. Rotating the antenna to just south of west
peaked the signals and we worked 4 of the spotted stations. We didn't hear any
answers to our CQs and the path eventually shifted from skew to nearly direct
as JA7OWD could be heard for the last hour of the contest.

73,
-Mike, N7MH
