Comments:

We are chalking this up as another successful J7 operation. We arrived at our J7
QTH on Saturday before the contest, and spent the better part of the next two
days putting up our FD-style antennas. We were QRV on the bands in a limited
way by late Sunday, and then spent the days before the contest running pileups.

Generally, band condx were poor each day until mid-afternoon, after which they
livened up. John, W4IX, struggled each day to make 6M QSOs, and by Friday, he
had a dozen in the log, including K1TO, N4TB, K4MM, K5RK, and a number of
Caribbean stations. We did not find any openings on 10m during the week, but
10m did come alive in the contest. We made some 80m QSOs during the week, but
QRN was high making receiving difficult without a separate rx antenna. During
the contest, however, 80m was a performer, primarily due to heavy contest
activity and minimal QRN.

The two bands that gave us the biggest surprises in the contest were 10m and
80m. We had a few QSOs on 10m in the 1600 hour, and then from 1900 to 2030 hrs,
we logged 114 Qsos before the band faded away. As mentioned above, local QRN on
80m during the contest was relatively low, and we were able to put 171 QSOs in
the log. We actually were back and forth between 80m and 20m on one of our
stations all night long.

We experienced six power outages during the night. Fortunately, they were
brief, and the equipment came back without any problems. (Whew!)

Local logistical support was provided by Lambert, J73LC, who assisted with our
J7 licenses, acquiring large bamboo poles, and providing transportation during
our stay. In addition, Donford, and a few other local fellows helped with the
heavy lifting and tree climbing on the antenna days.

Keeping us amply fed throughout our stay was Annette, K9DOC, WI9WI's XYL. In
addition to her fantastically creative dishes, Annette was essentially our
Logistics Manager, keeping us on track with shopping, meal planning, and other
details to which three boys and their radios were oblivious!

Our stations were two Electaft K3's with matching 500w amps and tuners. The
third station was a barefoot IC7000. We logged everything on WinTest(v.
4.21.0) which performed nicely. We networked the three stations using the
local wifi, and did not have any problems making that work. We did, however,
have two occurrences of logs being synced unintentionally. This happened when
the J75KG log (DX module) synced with the J77HQ log (IARU module) due to
"operator error". The lesson learned was to not have "Enable
Ethernet Network" checked if you don't want networked logs to be synced
automatically! The consensus among us three was that WT should issue a warning
message before allowing logs to be synced. (My flame suit is on!)

Antennas were:
Force 12 C3 on a 20ft pole with an antique rotator.

3El 20m yagi slung up in a palm tree with a tag line to move it from E to NW.

40m full wave loop hanging from a tree branch.

80M Inverted L up 40ft with a bunch of radials on the ground.

G5RV atop a bamboo pole about 60ft high.

OCF dipole, EDZ dipole, 6M EDZ.
