Comments:
Many thanks to Jack and Gwyn for hosting and feeding me again this year! Due
to the 12-hour mandatory off time rule, I was even able to watch some Little
League World Series qualifying while waiting for the bands to open.
At WRTC2014 I had missed the 10-Meter opening on Sunday morning and resolved to
learn from that mistake, so it was especially gratifying to catch the 10-meter
opening on Sunday morning this weekend. Conditions were good enough to even
send some QTC's up there on 10. Unfortunately, I had pulled the plug at 11PM
Saturday night in frustration after the 20-dB-over-9'static crashes on 80, so
from reading some other 3830 comments it appears I missed a good 20-meter
opening after Midnight. Oh well, contrary to Pokémon GO!, it's hard to CATCH
THEM ALL.
Speaking of which, during the contest I received a text message on my LINE app
from my son Patrick K3PAL who just arrived in Tokyo for a 1-year exchange
program (LINE is to the Japanese like WhatsApp is to American kids). He was
visiting a Shinto shrine in Ueno Park, and a huge crowd had gathered for some
reason. Soon he heard "KABUTO!!". Sure enough, he checked his
smartphone and there they were - 2 PokeStops, 2 Slowpokes, 1 Magikarp, 1
Omanyte and a Kabuto.
So while I hunted European country multipliers, Patrick hunted Pokémon in the
Land of the Rising Sun - a great weekend all around.
73!
Ken
