Comments:
In spite of declining conditions I was humming along pretty well. I rode the
10M opening on Saturday and felt like I might at least do as well as my last
year's score. Then when I was right in the middle of prime time on 40M CW,
something caused a major amount of QRN and the band became totally unusable.
80M wasn't open yet and 20M was fading. During the next hour I made a total of
8 SSB QSOs on 20M. I keep checking 40M to see if the QRN had stopped. I even
went outside looking for an idling big truck or something, but I could not find
the culprit. Finally after about an hour the QRN stopped and I was back in
business, but missing a chunk of 40M CW QSOs that should been in the log.
On Saturday I was excited when VY1AAA called me on 15M CW, but I could barely
hear him. I had him repeat his number about 10 times, but I still was not sure
I really had it. Fortunately, Saturday night, he called me again on 40M CW and
later on 80M CW, so I had some insurance QSOs for the NT mult. However, I never
got RI for the sweep and made about 200 less QSOs vs. last year. It was still a
lot of fun and it is always good to hear all the familiar calls.
