Comments:
I don’t do much phone contesting, I’m much more a fan of CW and RTTY, but I
decided I was going to take a crack at this one, just for fun(?) of it.
Maybe it was the propagation, maybe it was running low power, whatever, but the
difficulty of getting people to hear me and make the contacts made it a lot like
work. My phone inexperience was showing, I discovered errors in my setup of the
K3 for phone use. I played with that and adjusted it and things got a little
better as the contest went on.
Mostly the bands weren’t too good, but I was happy that I got more results
from 10 meters than I thought was going to be the case.
DX was hard to come by. North and South America provided 282 contacts, almost
70% of my total. Only 95 contacts came from Europe, an unusual experience for
sure in a DX contest. I was disappointed to have no JAs in the log; Asia and
Oceania were mostly missing in this one. Only 27 African contacts made the
log.
Anyway, this one is in the books and I’ll shrug it off and look forward to
the next one, doing CW next month. We can hope for better treatment from the
propagation gods at W8AV for the CW weekend.
Thanks to everyone for the contacts!
