Comments:
Participated in dribs and drabs over the weekend on a time-available basis to
help PVRC. Spent Saturday night on 40m in S&P mode hollering into the mic
to little avail. I thought the IC7410 + 500w amp had been replaced with a
Heathkit AT-1. It didn't help that the band went long early evening, with W6s
and W7s heard around 8:30pm EST. The 40m band was very noisy, too, but I had no
alternative for a lower band; my 80m wire remains in pieces on the ground
following a tree-removal job.
Sunday daytime on 40m was much better, with cleaner, stronger signals, so I
attempted a run and was nearly run over! A lot of "small potato"
operators like myself had come aboard Sunday morning with 30-40 QSOs, and all
were doing S&P. I had a great run and wish I'd tried it earlier. Next year
I will.
Near the end of that run on 7182 mHz I experienced deliberate QRMing by
"frequency owners," just as N1LN and K4OV had mentioned in their
reports.
Signals from my R6000 vertical were scattered and not very strong on 20m, and
almost non-existent on 15m, so I only spent a little time on those bands.
It was a special treat to work stations whose operators greeted me with
"Hi, John!"--fellow PVRCers.
