Targets for this event were:
1) To break the existing XE Record for SOAB(LP)
2) To get an score at least 1 Meg
Due to last minute work activities, I started 5 minutes late. The first two
hours were so poor -only 39 Q’s! - so I took a 3 hours break to decide
decide wether or not throw the towel.
Back to the shack a 0400z. Noted that the low bands were in not bad shape and
managed to pull some stations on top band, out of the infernal city noise;
unfortunately, HK1NA never heard me despite his amazing +20db signal
I went to bed at 0800z, and of course, overslept; resumed at 1300z,
alternating runs on 20,15 -and even 10 meters- which yielded some Q’s .
At 1800z broke the existing XE record for SOABLP(A).
However, the first 24 hours ended below plan with less than 480K points.
Enjoyed some short runs on 160M prior going to bed at 0700z.
Restarted a 1315z doing S&P on 20M, fishing out some juicy European mults,
and then running on 15M.
Switched the run to 20M at 1900z; the stint lasted 3 hours.
Back to 15M the last 3 hours to do a nice run of JAs at noise level.
The cherry on the cake: being called on the last 60 minutes by really needed
mults (some double): DS5TOS, 9M6XRO, RT0C, VK2FR. Woow, what a nice close!
Best claimed score ever on this category
The last 24 hours of the contest much better that the first part.
Highlights:
- 10M No Europe or Asia
- 15M & 20M The money bands
- 40M For moments, nice condx
- 80M Better than expected
- 160M Surprisingly much better than expected -given the high noise on my city
lot and my poor antenna.
- Enjoyed a lot, the virtual battle at cqcontest.net
- Best claimed score ever on this category
