Congrats to those with an M in the call!
Great to see old and make new friends in this activity.
Fairly quiet conditions both nights with a good stream of Europeans calling in.
Worked 171 five-pointers, with 97 of them the first night.
"Classic" operation with just one radio, Elecraft K3 with sub-RX and
diversity. Alpha 89 amp. Vertical parasitic K3LR 3-el array for TX (4 el.
toward Europe) and separate broadside/endfire vertical array with 325-ft by 146
ft spacing for NE/SW direction that is resonant high in band and was little used
this weekend. Miles and miles of radials.
Numerous phased Beverages and short vertical arrays for receive. Latest was a
four-element broadside/end fire array with 305 ft by 148 ft spacing partially
completed Friday morning that is in a new location about 1,000 feet from the
shack. It uses 11-meter tall wire elements supported by trees. Ran out of time
to install the base loading coils, but it played nicely with the wires just
hooked directly to the feedlines. No preamps needed. Only a single ground rod,
no radials yet. Dual feedlines to the shack to an NCC-1 that adjusts phasing.
Nice to watch S9 signals drop to zero as the null is adjusted. Compared
favorably with phased Beverages.
Half a dozen of the W6 sections kept me waiting till late the second night. Two
KL7's called in just before sunrise Sunday, leaving VY1 the only missing section
this weekend.
First JA called in at 0950z Sunday, but was lost in the noise. But two were in
the log at 1130z, with three others coming through in the next 30 minutes. All
were at squeaker level.
