Comments:
A very persistent and angry power line noise, in the neighborhood south of my
QTH, pretty much sank any hopes of low band operation. I identified the
offending pole to Duke Energy (a temp & moisture sensitive +20db buzzsaw on
40m) and their field rep confirmed it. Good news is, it's scheduled for
replacing a leaking arrestor this Friday (in time for the SP test, fingers
crossed). As long as I had the KT34 pointed north and to EU, I was able to
copy. Had to work many CA, SA and Caribbean off the back of the KT. Thank
goodness for a decent noise blanker on the Orion. Had some good runs Saturday
but not much on Sunday (mostly 90% S&P). Such is contesting... weather,
line noise, power or equipment failure, QRM, lids, jamming ... on and on it
goes. We do what we can to make some Q's. Six tests in eight weeks and Stew
Perry this weekend. Tis the season! Enjoy.
