Comments:
Always look forward to this contest with great
anticipation. Unfortunately band conditions didn't play
ball with lots of geomagnetic activity before, during,
and after the contest. Certainly character building! But it makes a greater
challenge
to keep going and winkle out the difficult ones in the noise and qrm
On the first night ended with 396 qso's and 40 multipliers. Propagation didn't
extend to the W7
call area or westerly canadian provinces and I was missing DC and some W0
states.
Frustrating hearing more southerly stations (e.g. Canary islands), and, of
course, the Caribbean having no problem.
On the second night I picked up another 6 multipliers. The surprises for me
were
ND (thanks K0IDX) and WA (thanks N7XR). Both were extremely weak with qsb.
Appreciate both for
their perseverence. I had a feeling that had I been able to beam a little
further South their
signals would have been stronger, skirting round the auroral oval. Maybe next
year I'll have some
extra directions on the 6-square.
On the 3rd night (last 2.5 hours of the contest) I was very pleased to make 72
qso's but with no
further multipliers. Still looking for that elusive VO2 !!!
Ended with 711 good qso's, 46 multipliers, and a claimed 98,118 points. Great
fun again.

Thanks to all the callers, the ARRL adjudicators, and EI5DI for providing SD.
Hope to hear you next year.
73, Rick GM3PPG
