Comments:
It was a privilege to join John Evans, N3HBX, at his contest station in
Poolesville, MD, for another IARU. Last year, we had a 196 hour on 40 meters
when it opened to Europe Saturday night and I was looking forward to that again
this year.
The Saturday evening opening to Europe wasn't nearly as good as last year. The
opening around European sunrise, though, was great Sunday morning. Our 40 CW
QSO totals were well behind last year until that opening, including a 122 QSO
hour on 40CW at 0500Z! Our best hour was mostly on 20 SSB Saturday afternoon
(130 QSOs).
The last few hours were a struggle doing S&P mostly on 20 meters. We could
hear and work European stations but couldn't maintain a run.
