Comments:

First, thanks to Tom, K5RC, and Midge, K7AFO, for once again providing the great
hospitality at a great mountain-top station located at 6,500 ft elevation (1,981
m).

Many of the antennas and rotators suffered major storm damage this Winter, but
thanks to the hard working efforts of K7NV and XE2K of Tower Busters, and the
volunteer work crew consisting of KH2TJ, K6NV, N7SAX, and W7LBH, ALL of the
Yagi and rotator repairs were completed just one week before the contest
started. Then on Friday, local volunteers W7LBH and W6UQZ reinstalled the 160m
GP, and I was good to go on all bands. Thanks so much guys!

Conditions seemed pretty good for most of the contest, but with the low sunspot
numbers, our high band openings to Japan and Europe were much more limited this
year. Just when I was hoping 20m would finally open well to Europe Saturday
evening, local time, the K index jumped to 5, and it was a struggle until much
later than usual to work anyone in Europe on 20. A nearby thunderstorm caused
lots of loud static crashes on all bands around the same time, forcing me to
ask for many more repeats than usual, slowing things down.

I attempted to interleave CQs on two bands at once for much of the contest, but
it's not all that practical when only one band is well open, or when signals are
very weak. I still have some work to do to better automate things with
Win-Test. Maybe I should have spent more time hunting for HQ mults instead of
trying to keep the rate up.
