After several generous and enticing offers to operate from other stations, I
decided I wanted to go back to basics and try a 20m solo operation from the car
next to the seaside. Hadn't done that since 2002! Unfortunately power issues
meant that I couldn't keep the amp running and eventually the laptop ended up
running out of power too, so I quit around 4.45pm local time on saturday.
Running 20m from here using a vertical means that although DX is there, its
often inaudible due to the huge QRM from EU that with a beam antenna, can often
be reduced. Otherwise I'm sure I would have managed more multipliers. In spite
of the disappointment that I couldn't continue, I had a good time anyway, which
was the primary objective. Kudos to my contesting buddies EB5KT and EA5KV for
their mono band efforts from Vic's new QTH.
