Comments:
K3CCR is the club station at the Collington continuing-care
retirement community at FM 18OW in MD, just east of DC. N3UM and
W3GB operated Multi-2 in the 2018 ARRL DX CW test.
To start W3GB clicked spots on 20m. for 2 hr. and then on 80m. till
0523Z, giving mults priority but then clearing the band maps of all
workable spots. This worked well for the rest of the test also.
In the first 3 hr. N3UM got 183 Qs running on 40m, 3 times what
he got running 40 at the start in 2017. This was because our new
2-el. JK beam made running on 40 much easier and more effective
than with last year’s inverted-V. N3UM clicked for 30 more Qs on
40 and quit at 0332 to sleep. W3GB did 80m. on late shift and had
342 QSOs and 133 mults total at 0523 QRT.
Sat. AM N3UM got good rates running EUs on 20m. 13-16Z, 265 Qs at
88/hr, then got a few more Qs clicking on 20. W3GB worked 15 and
then 10 m. 1430-1730Z, doing well given that SFI was only 69, then g
ot good results on 20 and 40m. 20-00Z, and on 160m. 02-04Z.
N3UM did the late shift 02-0633Z on 40, 80, and 160m. with slow but
steady rates, clicking spots after running on 80m. got only 11 QSOs.
Daytime Sun. we scraped up 229 more Qs and 31 more multa on 80
thru 10 m.; slow, but fun chasing mults. We got VK and KH6 on 15
and KH2, T8, VK, 5 ZLs, and 20 JAs on 20 m.
Claimed score was slightly down from 2017 due to 108 fewer Qs and
28 fewer mults on 15 and 10 meters this year. Lower bands were better
this year but not QUITE enough to make up for sunspot-starved 15 and 10 m.
