Comments:

Beta testing of the new FlexRadio/4O3A Power Genius XL amplifier. It is nice to
be QRO again. Special thanks to Graham, KE9H and the rest of the FlexRadio and
4O3A teams for their hard work, so we contesters can play :) It's nice not to
wait in pileups and also a real treat to have instant band switching. This is
one solid machine that can stand up to heavy duty contest duty, and it shows.
The whole combo of the Flex-6000 series radios with version 2 of SmartSDR and PG
XL amplifier is hard to beat. RF wise the Flex-6000 series radio can take all of
the contest splatter thrown at it, and still give you a comfortable environment
to listen to and work your pileups. No QRM was a match for my Flex-6700!!!

I started 94 minutes late due to family commitments plus getting everyone fed
and to bed. Then it was contest time. The first night it was kind of slow going
but it picked up. Had a few runs then S&P, and SO2R on 40/80. I put the amp
inline and began going. Easy setup with just Ethernet, power and RF.

First night so-so. Did some running, worked some domestic but a lot of DX was
notably absent. I worked them here and there but the rate to Europe was nowhere
to be found. Quit around 0400. Went to bed. Slept in late, so I missed the early
AM run to Europe. But even starting late, EU was rocking. Had some nice rates,
and lots of nice mults. I basically ran most of the day on 20, but also went up
to 15 and 10 to work SA and Caribbean mults.

What the hell happened on Sunday? Europe running was barely existent. The band
didn't even open up proper until well after sunrise here in W2. I struggled to
find EU rate all day, then had to point the beam West and try to make up with
working stateside stations. It did work but working 1 pointers and watching the
score slowly inch up is pure torture compared to running DX and watching the
score shoot up really fast.

Eventually I settled on 5.2 meg, 34 hours of operating, and while not great,
it's decent I think.

Congrats to Ray, W2RE for his 10 meg score from coastal Maine. Congrats also to
Marty, KC1CWF for his 4 meg score, limited time from Krassy's station.

Highlight of my weekend - working the absolutely amazing WK1DS operation.
Michelle and James have really raised those kids right, and it is amazing to
watch that family of hams do something like the contest together.

Another highlight - working so many YLs, such as HZ1HZ, KC9YL, KC9W and of
course KM4TXT and the Lea family. I'm hoping this is a trend.
