Comments:

I am in the process of doing some home improvements so didn't have very much
time to spend on the air, thus the decision to work single band. I figured this
way I could get a few hour in the evenings to play in the WPX. Seems that I made
a good decision to work 40 meters as the band was in great shape on Friday night
at the start of the contest. Started out working a mix of Caribbean and US
stations at the beginning of the test. Had some very nice openings into Europe
and the Middle East. Most of the stations that I worked seemed to be right in
the center of EU. The band really opened up around 0145, I started working quite
a few Russian stations and then into the Middle East, worked Kuwait with only
one call. Started hearing Norway, Denmark & Sweden around 0330, and then
back down to the Caribbean, where I worked stations from the US Virgin Islands
and Puerto Rico. 40 meters started to get noisy (QRN) around midnight, but was
still able to add Madeira Island, Croatia, Norway and Sweden into the log before
I called it a night.

Saturday night had another nice opening into EU, but the band was a bit noisy.
This time I was working the lower half of EU, with the bulk of my contacts in
Spain, France, & Italy. Around 0200 I started working stations from Ukrain,
Belarus, Latvia, and Georgia. Went to bed around Midnight due to QRN and not
finding many new stations to work. Fell short of my goal, wanted to hit 200 Q's,
only made 183. Got back in the shack Sunday morning around 1100 GMT and worked a
few US stations, then I ran into and easily worked one station from Australia
(VK1FOC) and another from New Zealand (ZL4YL Xenia). Made my goal of 200 Q's but
had to stop as I was busy all day Sunday working on the house with the wife.
