Comments:
An excellent contest! With the recent poor condx I was skeptical that condx
would be as good as the forecast predicted. I was pleasantly surprised to have
things even better - no really screaming rates just steady contacts throughout
the contest. 20m conditions were really good. Usually, DL is my most worked
country - this time it was UA. And the UA/Eastern/Northern Eu stns came thru at
random, really a fun time. Noise was quite bad, worse the first night on the
low bands. Often the 2nd night isn't as active as the first, this time 40 was
quite good. 15 wasn't as good here as elsewhere - a few Eu stns but not really
loud and nothing there runnable. Straight Sat and Sun morning, SE Sunday
afternoon.
Saturday evening I left the high point 40m band to go over the pole on 20. I
was a little late to the party but still managed to have the best time of the
contest and pick up a slew of mults. As good an opening as one could hope for
this part of the cycle.
The biggest negatives were the noise - Fri night on the low bands and Sunday
afternoon on 20 due to nearby storms. I also had a couple people decide they
wanted my freq and proceeded to CQ with minimal results while S&Ping on
another band. I was quite shocked at their persistence and the calls involved -
I know they could hear me. Also a couple wide stns although not as many as I've
heard in the past.
Time management has never been one of my strengths. I took an off period
~40mins long Sat midday. Not being certain, checked the rules later and saw
that 1hr is the minimum. Oh, well.
Great contest, great to work so many friends both known and hidden under other
calls. Thanks for all the contacts!
