Comments:

Biggest surprise. 20 was open to Europe most of the contest, until midnight
Friday night and pretty much all day long and into the late hours the rest of
the contest . Sometimes the biggest stations were runnable but most of the time
S&P. Most Europeans were weak and not many small European stations made it
into our log.

In general. Rapid QSB on most signals. Lots of rapid fading on reports. Would
get 599 and then may the first digit of the serial number but would need to ask
for repeat of the serial number – often several times. The same fading on
callsigns occurred and necessitated asking for repeats, but this did not happen
as often as it did on signal reports.

Disappointments. Minimal JA participation during daylight hours on 20 and none
for us on 15. As expected, no contacts on 10. Best JA activity for us was on
40 the first night and far fewer the second night. In both cases static crashes
are likely to result in some broken call signs and miscopied signal reports in
our log.

Inactivity. Far fewer stateside and VEs in the log than anticipated. They were
probably running Europe and paying very little attention to the West coast.
Few, if any, Africans in our log and almost no Caribbean and South American
stations either. And not many from Asia and Oceania, although we did log a few
ZL and VKs.

Thanks. To everyone who worked or tried to work us. And to ops Dennis, Walt,
Chuck, Tony, Dick and Curt. And special thanks to Tony (N7DX) for his second
time here and Dick (W7UDH) for his first time with us – most welcome additions
to the team.
