Comments:
Conditions were very flat up here in the North Woods on Saturday. All but one of
my 29 QSOs were in the EN grid square, and all but 2 were FT8. I heard no SSB
signals and only worked two CW QSOs. Sunday more than made up for it. The band
was open all day to the east, southeast and south. The paths to the west were
generally a wasteland. Of my 253 QSOs I ended up with 149 CW, 57 SSB, and 47
FT8. I would have had more QSOs but I had guests for several hours in the middle
of the day. I would guess that at least half of the FT8 QSOs could have been
completed on CW or SSB. I was using the new v. 1.9 with the NA VHF protocol and
had quite a few conflicts with folks using the standard protocol and the auto
sequencing. They kept sending my signal report over and over while the auto
sequencer waited for their report. Some of these QSOs took 5 minutes. There were
a couple I just gave up on. With both stations using the NA VHF protocol most
QSOs took 1 minute.
Gear K3, KPA1500 at 1 KW, M**2 5 element beam at 55 ft.
Thanks for all the Qs.
73 from the North Woods,
Jim WI9WI
