Just playing around but did notice some strange operating on FT8. It seemed
like some never read the rules. The exchange was 4 character grid square with
report optional. Unfortunately, those using WSJT SW were transmitting
irrelevant 4 character numbers at their 2nd transmission. Therefore this added
an extra 30 seconds for each QSO plus the potential for miscopied grid squares.
WSJT also has not been able to nor can still not handle auto-sequencing properly
when the other station sends something unexpected to WSJT. I understand that if
both parties use WSJT that should work - not always, and if everyone used WSJT
it would probably account for the irrelevant 4 character numbers.
The correct approach for Run or S&P is first transmission - Grid second
transmission - RR73 this takes a total of 1 minute (assuming no repeats) and
complies with the rules with no potential for mis-copied grid squares. WSJT is
amazingly great SW but not VHF contest ready.
In the contest I used JTDX and it worked like a charm logging directly to N1MM
with no wasted transmissions or ambiguous exchanges plus proper auto-sequencing.
Just my opinion your mileage may vary. Hope all had fun and special thanks to
all the rovers for their efforts.
