Another fun VHF contest.
Over the last few years I have been trying to add some new hardware a new band.
This year turned out to be very busy and I did not get as much done as I would
have liked but overall things turned out ok. The big thing I added was a
high power solid state amp for 432. It is built around a W6PQL RF pallet and
using many of his great parts. I am getting about 700 watts out so far and I
really
did not get it finished until a day or so before the contest.

Last year I built up one of the Larcan amps for 222:

Sometime in the last year my 222 yagi developed an issue and I was not paying
attention and I
blew up some of the devices in the 222 amp - I fixed that in the week before the
contest.
I still have not fixed the 222 antenna - a few weeks before the contest it
tested good
but then a week later was acting up again. So I stole the old 222 (220 really)
yagi back
from our rover setup and found a place for it on the tower - barely.
You can see it in the photo right above the 6 meter yagi. You can not really
tell but it
is less than a foot above the 6m yagi in most places and about 6 inches below
the 1296 yagi.

There were a few rovers out - and it was great having KD5IKG/R on 903 Mhz.
Need to get him on 1296 for next time.
Several stations were out of town so I only managed one contact and grid on 10g.
I did some digital in the contest for the first time this year. I worked some
FT8 the first
day/night but mostly was trying to scare up folks on MSK on 2 meters. I worked
a few but
less than I would have liked. The CW/SSB rates were much better than FT8 - so I
sure hope those
folks that are only on FT8 figure out how to do SSB as well next time.
I also worked some FM on 2 Meter, 70cm and even one on 33cm.
I keep improving the FM antennas and this year I added a 16 dipole 440 mhz
array.
I need to get it mounted in a better location - right now it is at ground level
near the shack and tower but it is so big it still puts the top at close to 20
ft and
on top of the hill it does ok.
