Comments:
During the contest large and smaller firefighting planes, including at least one
DC-10 VLAT, plus helicopters carrying buckets of water flew low over the house
on the way to defend the Clear Lake cities of Nice, Lucerne and Clearlake Oaks
opposite us. Air remained OK until last hour of NAQP when winds shifted. Lake
County is like a war zone, but no one shooting at us. Those of you on Facebook,
look at my picture taken Thurs night “Fire Under Cassiopeia” on the Page
“Friends of Taylor Observatory “. Over 9,000 people have viewed it. Our
fires — Ranch and River, now the 6th largest wildfire in CA history.
Radio Conditions fair to good — 20 and 80 best here. Managed to move just one
station — K6LRN, to 15m to 10. Almost nothing beyond W coast heard on 160.
