Two weeks ago I was all set up and ready for the RTTY flavor of this contest.
Then NAQP series is one of my favorites as everyone is limited to 100 watts, so
the battle to be heard is more of an even field. Unfortunately, when I started
to transmit, no one seemed to be hearing me. I ran for awhile and then went to
S&P for a bit, but after an hour of trying, with no success, I figured
something was wrong with my antenna. As it was raining I couldn't do anything
except write the RTTY NAQP off as a loss. Since then, I found that the
connector on my GAP antenna was corroded and not making a good connection. I
removed the connector, cleaned it up, and re-installed it and was ready for the
CW contest. I also made sure I sealed the connection, so it should be good for
another year or so.
All S&P (my CW ears aren't as good as they used to be and I don't trust my
decoder to get things right the first time, so running wasn't in the cards).
But even with S&P I was able to keep my rate at an average of 20 QSOs per
hour.
System:
Rig: Kenwood TS-590S
Antenna: GAP Challenger
Logging S/W: WriteLog V 12.28D
Comfy Chair for extended BIC time.
Not sure I'll do the Phone NAQP (I really don't like phone), but maybe... Guess
I'll play that by ear....
