K3CCR is the club station at the Collington continuing-care
retirement community at FM 18OW in MD, just east of DC.
For NAQP CW 8/18 N3UM and W3GB did M2, with distractions. N3UM tried
the also-on 222 MHz Up contest for ~40 min. to start. W3GB’s recent
back surgery limited his BIC time to 3.5 hrs with a 1.5 hr. rest
break in the middle. But, we did ~OK anyway, 404 Qs and 105
mults in 8.7 hrs. QRV, just 12 Qs and 11 mults less than we got
in 2017 in 9.2 hrs.
Both 20 and 40m. were steady but slow for the first 5 hrs, 144 Qs
total. After 23Z 40m. was better, 90 Qs in 2 hr., but runs never
lasted beyond 20 to 40 Qs on 20 or 40m. Rate was far better on 80m.
0145-0330Z, 134 Qs for 60/hr, 81 of those Qs in 57 min. for a peak
rate of 85/hr. Activity was great and QRN low on 40 and 80m, but
scarce sunspots made 20 m. weak.
