Comments:
Tried a National Forest, KFF-2525 rather than a Michigan State Park. Turned out
OK, except I had a hard time finding the "right" because of my
misconception of where a Forest Service Ranger Station was located. Instead of
finding a Ranger Station I found a roadshide part with shared administration by
the Forest SERvice and the Michigna Highway Department, clearly within the
National Forest.
Anyway, bands were funky. I got to the location early, firest up on 40 meters,
found 4 Q's in about 15 minutes. Switched to 20, found NO Reverse Beacon
Network skimmers were picking me up. Weird.... After self spotting and calling
CQ for over 5 minutes I was about to move to 30 meters, when 5 W5's called in
succession.. 4 from Texas, 1 from Louisiana! Nothing else was heard, and no RBN
skimmer heard me.... Moved to 30, lots of RBN spots, but only 2 Q's.
Moved to 40 at 1900Z, and found W6P calling CQ for the Route 66 event. Worked
him, got the exchange, his name and State, so it was a legit CWT contact. Went
to 20 every so often during next 30 minutes, but none of the stations were S9+,
so they either didn't hear me or I was blocked out by louder stations. Worked
16 total stations on 40 duringt 30 minutes. At that point the "new
meat" wss getting slim, and I had 35 Q's in the log, so I hung it up.
Thanks to everyone who pulled my pipsquoke signal! It was a good day on 40,
after all!
