Fun multi single operation from HG5A with Simon László, John Doo , Ádám Kiss
and HA5XA as operators. Thank you for the invitation, Simon László (HA5IW).
This was the first real contest with the excellent new antenna system these guys
created on this hilltop QTH that was the site for many wins in the ancient past
but had not been used for serious HF contesting for the past decade or so. HA5IW
and his team built several transmit and even more receive antennas on each band,
with a cockpit control more complex than that of NASA :) It was quite a
challenge to find out on which antenna each caller sounded best (or just at all)
:) We had one single transceiver (FTDX-3000) so we could have done better in
working mults and changing bands with at least one more workstation or
information about other bands. We used the RX out of the FTDX-3000 and hooked up
a SunSDR2 Pro through a switchbox, but it was receive only, and could receive
only when we were not transmitting and only on the run band. So most of the time
it was just a support receiver for the operator. It was interesting to compare
these two receivers.

10m was a surprise on Sunday morning. We went to the band to work the few local
multipliers for ten minutes, then called CQ just to pass the time that we had to
pass on the band. And suddenly, a VK reaped through the headphones... We got a
good number of DX, including VK9XG and other just boom in at S9+ signals, while
sporadic E brought in a lot of EU countries as well... Other memorable things
were the JA pileup on 80m with the 2 element phased vertical array and getting
calls for CQ from rare ones. Thank you for the fun, everybody,
