Comments:
What excuses can I offer for only making 5 contacts in this CWT? For one thing,
I only operated for 40 minutes instead of a full hour. But even if I'd had
another 20 minutes, my rate indicates I could only expect to have made another
two or three contacts. Not great when I've been averaging 12 to 15 Qs per full
hour.
I can't blame the propagation. There were lots of strong signals. I think I have
to just chalk it up to the luck of the draw. The way the cookie crumbles. When
you are strictly S&P and not a code-copying superstar, and your station is
the peashooter variety, I think a lot depends on circumstances. Just to give one
example: I'll hear a strong station, but don't know if it's running or S&P.
So I wait to see. If it turns out to be running I'm in luck, but if not, I've
just lost precious time.
Another thing was today I heard a couple of DX stations, maybe guys who had gone
to exotic spots in preparation for next weekend's DX contest. I spent time
getting all their info, or trying (each had a call sign with a slash) and ended
up working only one of them.
Still, it was a lot of fun. Tnx for the Qs and 73! Larry
