The usual: no receiving antenna and S8-S9 noise on my non-resonant vertical +
what can only be described as my laziness. The first night I had a short on the
feedline at the final connector. Due to the rain and very high humidity? Fixed
this quickly and rather shoddily, and did not weather-proof it at all, hoping
just to survive another day. The second night, when it started pouring down, it
shorted again with a devastating effect on the UHF bulkhead mount that I used to
join the pigtail to the coax a day before. This time around I did the fix
(almost) properly, partially in the dark outside and in the "pouring cats
and dogs" weather, soldering all connections and applying heat shrinking
tubing for weather-proofing. It survived the second night and is still working
:) Moral of the story? Do the job right the first time.
