Comments:

Began contest running only 5 watt QRP but quickly discovered my simple HEX beam
and wire antennas at my remote site were no match during our current solar
cycle. Rather than switch to 100 watts, I decided to experiment for the
duration of entire contest running only bare minimum power to generate a decent
QSO rate.

Keep in mind, my HF remote station is located on a remote desert mesa in
southwestern Utah, at an elevation of 5,200 ft. Antennas are located on the
eastern most edge of this mesa with excellent low angle take off to EU, AF and
SA. But apparently, my antenna farm is marginal at best for serious contesting.

My results were the following:
    5 watts = 15/20 meters (HEX Beam @ 70 feet)
10-15 watts = 40/80 meters (80 meter wire sloper, 40 meter HF2-V vertical)
15-20 watts = 160 meters (160 meter dipole located at edge of observation
cliff)

So my experiment confirmed, until band conditions improve or I install better
antennas to be more competitive, I best stick to 100 watts or more.

Station: TS-480, 5 band HEX beam @ 70 ft., HF2-V vertical 40/80, 80 meter wire
sloper, 160 meter dipole.

73's de Jack, WA7LNW
