What was to have been a M/2 operation at WX3B got cancelled due to dire wx
predictions of ice late in the day (not sure if it ever occurred). So the crew
operated from their home QTHs (and I hope they surpassed my score).
My Leader commanded "200-300 Qs".The start was rough; 20 and 15M were
a slog. Sigs were plagued with QSB and more often weak at my QTH. It was
beginning to look like I'd never reach 100. The move to 40M in the late
afternoon got things moving, but I could not establish a run; about all the 40M
Qs were S&P.
After dinner, resuming abt 0130Z, 40M picked up and I remained there for abt 1
hr. Moving to 80M, I stayed there except for a brief excursion back to 40M at
0300Z. From abt 0320Z, the rest of the time was spent on 80M. Given my fairly
meager 80M antenna, I thought that trying to run 80M would be a waste of time.
WRONG! Surprisingly, 80M run proved very fruitful beginning at 0400Z until I
went QRT at 0530Z.
The early frustration turned into fun. Working many PVRC and CWops members added
to the pleasure. This week's NAQP total was less than the CW leg, which I had
hoped to match. It's too bad the wx forecast scotched our planned M/2 in
Taneytown. That would have been real fun.
