Comments:

NN1C asked me if this was the worst conditions I had ever seen in an ARRL DX. I
said no. Despite that, things were pretty darn bad.

We had sustained winds of over 100 Mph the weekend before the contest. Neither
Andy, K2LE, or I have visited his phenom Vermont QTH to see actual damage, but
there is some.

Normally, we have the 4L Optibeam 40 at 105 feet. Well, that antenna not
producing any RF on receive, with high SWR on transmit. The fact that I
managed 54 mults of 40 was amazing -- the Interlaced 3L 40/20 at 80 feet had
high SWR on SSB.

My fellow YCCCers may have heard me on 15 trying to work SA mults. I called
and called and called. Andy has a 5L 15 at 55 feet, and an Optibeam 11 WARC
antenna at 90 for 20-10m. The Optibeam SEEMed better, so was trying to use it.
However, it turns out the reason I could not work anything was that it had
turned on the mast -- I had to beam 315 degrees to work SA! Once I figured
that out, it was one call again.

I listened in frustration as many New Englanders worked SA on 10. I heard
little to nothing and working nothing.

The only highlight was Andy's full-size delta loop on 75/80m. It is an
outstanding antenna -- I could work any station practically on demand and broke
many pileups with ease. His two-wire beverage was excellent on 80 and 160.

We have ebbs and flows in contests -- this was definitely an ebb. Time to get
to work figuring out what is wrong, and fixing it. Always great to have friends
around the world call in and to give them the Vermont multiplier.

As always, thanks to Andy for the use of the station.

73.
