Comments:
After a very disappointing June VHF Contest propagation-wise and battling power
line noise the entire season, this weekend was a real boost!
Lots of positives:
+ Bottomless pit of stations to work on SSB when the band was open. 555 SSB
QSOs or about 80% of my Qs were here.
+ Wide variety of openings, including long EU opening Sunday and lots of short
skip to W4/W5. QSB was quite evident.
+ Rovers. Had many call in and noticed a ton of rovers being spotted out west
in needed grids. Huge thanks to all!
+ New blood on the band. Some comments about using non-6M antennas and others
just new to the band.
+ Almost everyone knows their grid square. Maybe a result of International Grid
Challenge last year? FT8 on HF?
+ Two new DXCC and at least six new grids.
+ New PC and larger monitor
Lots of not so good things:
- Thunderstorms knocked out 3.5 hours of good op time (incl last hour) and
caused high static levels in many other hours
- Power line noise peaks due east at S9+5 and sparks up when wet, unlike most
that quiets down with rain
- Frustration with overcrowded FT8 segment and inability to complete QSOs
timely. 50.323 netted three EU QSOs only.
- Expected FT4 to debut in a big way and maybe even dominate the activity.
Bzzzt. Three QSOs.
- MSK144 has seemingly fallen out of favor for those many hours when the band
isn't usable on even FT8. One QSO.
150 Qs on FT8 and 6 on CW.
Some unfinished projects here, so station is IC-7300 + Commander amp running
typically 700W to 7L 6M7JHV at 55'.
See you on 6M!
