I gave this a good college try... I'm not sure what possessed me to stick with
it for as long as I did, but it might have been related to watching my ranking
on the Contest online scoreboard. This was a grind... the storm wasn't fun at
the start where it took out a lot of EU potential. Things did get better and
working the VK's and ZL's towards the end really motivated me. A lot of grid
mults and the 4 - 5 point QSO's really made the score move at the end despite
the grind to eek out each qso.
I really wish the VK's and ZL's would have known about the contest and it would
have been nice if they were on the latest version of WSJT, because the no signal
report was PAINFUL for them to deal with. Next year will be much better I'm
sure.
I'll take CW, RTTY and even SSB any time over this grind, but you know... it was
still kind of fun. :) Interesting to totally do something new and stick with it
as long as I did. I gave up about 2.5 hours before the end.
I did make a real-time / mid contest 4K video on YouTube that some might find
interesting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjrLLYeQYN0
So a grinder it was! Thanks for all the FT4 QSO's, the FT8 QSO towards the end
were torture. I needed a target on the wall to bang my head against while
grinding out the FT8 QSO's with stations that wanted a SNR report. Groan...
that was painful and I wasn't about to switch out of the contest mode.
I hope others had fun and it will be interesting to see some of the numbers...
