Comments:
I wonder if anyone actually reads soapbox comments, but I'll leave one as food
for thought. I've been a ham for a Quarter century now. I absolutely am not a CW
operator, I learned it to pass my 20wpm test when it was still 'required' for
licensing.
The moment I passed my 20 I stopped learning/practicing code and left it behind.
About 5 years ago I came back to it, and only because I started treating it
differently. I now treat it as a "Digital Mode" with "Human Error
Correction". Sometimes I 'hear' it with my brain, sometimes with technology
and sometimes with both. It's actually made it FUN. I had such a blast that each
time I got tired, I'd just take a break for half an hour to an hour (to let the
tinnitus in my head calm down) and then actually want to get back into it.
I just wonder how many more people we could have "operating" CW if we
all changed the way we viewed it, and hadn't spent years trying to keep it as a
restriction on advancing the Amateur service. I'm glad ARRL Nov SS CW reminded
me of how much FUN I could have with it, and look forward to working more CW in
the future! Till next time, 73 for now! - Tom KB2URI
