Comments:

This weekend I had originally planned a more passionate effort and anticipated
over 1,000 QSOs from home. My motivation suffered, and I spent most of the
weekend away from the radio, watching the spots for the higher scoring
stations.

Finally, at about 1:15pm Sunday afternoon, I took a ride back to Taneytown and
fired up on 20 meters....with a twist...I only ran 100 watts. I was spotted
almost instantly and the rate was good! I was surprised how little difference
running low power made. Even some high power stations I was sure would NEVER
hear me, heard me. Thanks to VY1AAA for pouncing on me early in the event - it
is amazing how many sections will come to you. I think KP2M was the only
station I actually pounced on for the multiplier.

After daylight started fading (5:00pm-ish) I decided to fire up with full power
on 75 meters and found it to be delightfully quiet, the band was short and
signals were super-loud. I finished my 3 hour stint on 75 meters.

It was fun to operate with Dennis N8IVN who was in the 2nd chair at WX3B right
next to me, using his own call sign. Dennis assumed the 40 meter position, and
after getting his sea-legs back, ran until he had enough fun for the night.

Went back to my townhouse location (Elizabeth's house) and ran a few as WY3P
with 100 watts and a G5RV. Getting the antenna's center up another 10 to 15
feet helped!!

As always it's great to run into so many PVRCers and friends from all over the
USA and Canada - like we get to do every year.

73,

Jim WX3B
