Comments:
Got on for two hours from home station at the start, while waiting to feed/walk
the dog, which I needed to do before heading down to W6YX.
Experience of start of contest from home similar to CW version, only worse.
After 5 minutes of CQ'ing into the void, switched to S&P, and even that was
hard work, as the loud stations had big pileups, though if this had been the
Hawaii QSO Party, I would have done well. Achieved the mighty rate of 40/hour. I
suppose it might have been a different story if I had gotten on the second day.
By the way, at YX, one caller kept asking me "what's your clan, I need your
clan." Finally figured out he was asking for precedence.
One nice surprise of the weekend was being called by WA2BLE with check 67... the
call rang a bell...he was a childhood friend of mine... we both got our novice
licenses around the same time and I lost touch with him 50 years ago. Found him
on QRZ and caught up via email.
