Comments:
Our team tried a number of new things this year. In past years we have activated
K7IR in EWA. We didn't use that call, since we didn't want to be asked over and
over for a section repeat :-)
Our location was in CN88SE, a field-day-esque operation from a cabin near
saltwater. We can see K7RL's location over saltwater from ours :-) We had a
SteppIR DB32 antenna on a portable trailer, about 85 feet, a vertical for 80m
with one radial, and a SteppIR BigIR with three radials, one each for 40, 20,
15m.
>From the beginning we were noticing that conditions (for us) weren't as good as
they'd been in past years. Operators noted the LACK of big runs; Some stations
said our 150 watts was loud. Others said "You're weak, try again."
We missed NL and ironically, EWA. We heard Mark, KB7HDX, inundated with callers
on Sunday, but we never heard him him well enough on 20m to work him. We would
have thought we could have picked up EWA on 80m, but no such luck. Mid-day
Sunday we noticed 15m was open from reversebeacon.net data, so started calling
CQ, and activity built to a flurry of contacts reminiscent of the old days.
Thanks for the Qs, Hope we made some folks laugh from Kilowatt Seven Rainbow
Unicorn.
