Comments:
I must have a word with Mr. Bruce Horn, WA7BNM, about scheduling a major contest
on a weekend when family took precedence over everything. My first great
grandchild arrived Thursday with her parents from California and I got my first
introduction to Maggie, named after my sainted mother, Magdalena. They will be
here for a few days, and I'm devoting as much time as possible to them.
I did manage to work in some good time Friday night, on 20 and 40M where action
on 40M was excellent. I also worked a few on 80M but decided to save that band
for activity Saturday evening. Unfortunately, on Saturday evening at this
location, both 40M and 80M were as good as dead. Huge signal absorption seemed
to be at work. I heard a couple very weak stations and managed to work them.
Then as time moved on more weak but readable signals appeared. I worked 40 and
80M to my exhaustion. 160M just didn't happen here, not for lack of trying.
I really enjoyed pushing my CW speed for those who demonstrated that they could
handle it. Copying calls was a minor inconvenience at times, but copying the
exchange was trivial. Speed held up. My usual habit is to work slower so as to
avoid repeats, especially with complex exchanges.
All in all, it was a good time that I had available. I'll try to keep weekends
clear henceforth so that Mr. Horn needn't worry about my schedule! Thanks for
the Qs, 73, Vic W4VIC
