Comments:
The fact that I got significantly more zones on 40 than on 20 shows how much now
the propagation had shifted to the low bands.
The most amazing qso was when I was called by a JA station with a descent signal
while running on 40 to Europe. That was usually happening on 20m a few years
ago.
Very surprising too to be able with only 100W to have a consistent run with
European stations. Of course the full scale 4SQ helps.
About the 4SQ, for those interested I discovered a year ago that the 80m 4square
with a DXing controller is a very good RX antenna on 160m with a good
directivity and even better in term of S/N than my 160m long beverage. So now the
80 4SQ is my main RX antenna on 160m when of course I am not using it for TX on
the second radio. To do that I have just added a switch driving a RF relay.
Low Power with good antennas is cool as long as you have not on the other side
of the Ocean a guy without decent RX (I assume it is not at purpose) who starts
a run on your face...It is when cool is getting hot and you want to light up the
amplifier ... May be the rules could be amended with something like "in LP
category, if a #$$ %@!* starts a CQ on your face you can exceptionally use your
amplifier to express your thoughts" ...
Any case this contest was a lot of fun and thank to all the stations answering
my CQ even those very strange ones doing it 3 times on the same band during the
same contest!
