Comments:

HC0T is a contest call of the Guayaquil Radio Club (HC2GRC) contesting group.

The GRC has many young active members. I met several of them and was very
impressed with their enthusiasm.

The club custodian is Alex, HC2AO. He oversees the ongoing remodeling of the
club building. A really special spark-plug kind of guy. He has been a ham since
age 9 - and has a deep knowledge and experience in contesting.

When I asked him about contest operating possibilities, he was enthusiastic.

The club's three story HQ building sports towers with Telrex yagis (6 el. on 10
+ 8 el. on 15 + 6 el. on 20 + 3 el. on 40 meters), an 80 meter dipole and
supporting a 160 meter top-loaded vertical with newly installed FCP.

The GRC is located in downtown Guayaquil, a bustling port city of 2.3 million.
It is surrounded by multiple high level RFI sources. Many mitigation strategies
have been tried unsuccessfully over the years.

Going into this, I was quite concerned that the RFI would be fatal. But, as it
turned out - I got used to it. Of course, I don’t know how much I wasn’t
hearing. I do know that many stations called which I simply couldn’t pull out.
Probably weak multipliers included. So if anyone called and didn’t get
heard, that’s why.

My K3's NB & NR helped a great deal. Sometimes I even used both features at
the same time!

HC2AP (Ahmed) was kind enough to loan me his IC-7300 for use as a second radio.
Got it all set up - but then ultimately couldn't use it because I wasn't
familiar enough with its menus. Sad.

I can't say enough about the great hospitality of the Guayaquil Radio Club
members. The president is HC2BP (Lorenzo), the treasurer is HC2DR (Victor).
Also thanks to HC2TMZ (Matteo)for showing us around their city and to HC2TKV
(Kevin) for rounding up a monitor for me to use.

Thanks again to Alex, HC2AO, for allowing me to operate from the club's
station.
