Comments:
First, want to thank Dave, K9XD and family for having me over. This was kinda a
last minute organized effort and I had fun!
I got a late start on Friday, starting at 0153Z. We got N1MM configured and
worked out a few minor kinks and it was off to the race. I tempered my
expectations given the late start on my part and internally set a goal of around
700Q's.
Friday night in US/VE was an absolute blast. N1MM rate summary:
0215Z - 5.0 per minute (1 minute(s)), 300 per hour
0228Z - 3.3 per minute (10 minute(s), 198 per hour
0300Z - 2.4 per minute (60 minute(s), 146 per hour
The next hour had over 100 and as expected it tapered off. EU was weak Friday. I
made a almost critical mistake and fell asleep thinking I would take a cat nap
before the Saturday JA opening. I woke up waaaay late.
Back in the Saddle Saturday afternoon, K9XD and son strung up a NE BOG towards
Europe to add to the K9AY loop, and then also Dave added the 80M antenna as an
option to RX. Having a choice of different RX antennas made a BIG difference as
Europe was just starting to really blossom on Saturday. We went from ~15
countries to about 30 in the span of an hour or so.
I stayed up from Saturday til around 9AM Sunday calling CQ and hunting for
mults. Had a couple SA mults and was still missing AK and JA. Overnight was a
tough slog but kept going. I was reaching K9ZO almost! I was at 901Q's when I
took a quick break after calling CQ for 10 minutes, I came back and that slog
produced enough Q's to get me within reach of 1000. I got JA Sunday morning,
originally working 1, then worked about 3 more. Also got AK.
Called CQ until around 9AM Sunday, picking up the Sunday AM stragglers. Got NE
as a mult.
Thanks to Dave and family for having me over, I really enjoyed it. It's amazing
what you can also do from a suburban lot. The TX antenna really worked
excellent!
Lots of SMC'ers worked. Thanks for the Q's and GO SMC.
Radio: IC-7700
TX Ant: 160M L with elevated radials
RX: K9AY loop, NE BOG (Europe) and 80M dipoles (E/W, switchable)
73,
